What was originally planned?

Today I want to tell you about how LeSqew and I took part in the “Chill Devs Chill Jam #6” game jam and how the “The Darkest Light & The Brightest Darkness” game was developed. You will also find out what was originally planned to be added to the game and what went wrong. I hope it will be interesting!

The game jam was held from February 7 to February 14, 2024. Game jam theme: “You Shouldn't Be Here”. This was my 4th game jam and 6th game, and LeSqew’s first game jam and first game. The team consisted of 2 people - game designer, screenwriter and pixel artist Siv and programmer, game designer LeSqew.


On the first day, we came up with many different ideas for the game jam and called in the evening to discuss them. They chose one of my ideas, which was the most developed. In the following days, we began to actively work on the game: I drew art for it, and LeSqew wrote the code. However, as already mentioned, not everything was realized... Since this game was LeSqew’s first game, he was unfamiliar with a lot of things in the Unity engine and learned a lot from 0. It took a lot of time, so we had to cut a lot.


According to the idea, the player is a The Light who was born to destroy The Darkness. The game starts before the game's final boss, The Darkness, and the player must kill him. But everything does not go according to plan, and The Darkness moves the character to another game to show him that light and darkness cannot exist without each other,  otherwise there will be nothing.

Finding himself in another game, the character accidentally brings with him pieces of darkness from the first game, and also due to the appearance of new characters that SHOULDN'T BE HERE, the game begins to collapse and more and more bugs appear. At the end of the game, the player would meet another player who was playing the second game. There is a battle between two players (one of whom is us), during which we learn that the second player has been playing this game for a very long time. No one can defeat his opponent, because both players have checkpoints.

We use the bugs that have appeared in the game and go to the check point of player 2 and break this check point, then we kill the player. Due to the fact that the player tried to beat this game for a very long time, and we destroyed his save, he deletes the game and we see how the game is destroyed. The End.


This was the idea in terms of the implementation of the theme and plot. In terms of gameplay, the first game is top down with close combat, and the second game is a regular platformer, without battles, in which we found ourselves.

Unfortunately, we were only able to implement the first game and a little of the second. Bugs that appeared during the game, bosses and the plot disappeared into oblivion :_((

Developing the game was hard and painful, but fun. This was our first joint project and LeSqew's first game!  

Will we continue to develop the game? A good question to which we cannot yet answer. Maybe if this idea interests people or us, we will continue. In the meantime, you can evaluate what we managed to do and download the game! Also write what you think about the idea of the game! We will be very grateful!!! ^^
